Enhance Your RSS Feed with FeedBurner

Usually an application such as a blog or Content Management System has the built-in capability to create an RSS feed for syndication to feed readers and other websites. Running your feed through a (free) service like
FeedBurner gives it even more functionality.
Using the free FeedBurner service is pretty straightforward. Go to their site (www.feedburner.com) and register your feed with them. They run you feed through their service and give you a new, perhaps easier to remember URL. For instance, the feed for my blog called
The Weekend Golfer is automatically generated by my blogging software (b2evolution). The address for the native feed is:
http://biz-blogs.com/b2e/xmlsrv/rdf.php?blog=3
When I pass it through FeedBurner the address is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheWeekendGolfer
Does this make any difference? Probably not.
Other Advantages of FeedBurner
Some other advantages of running your feeds through a service like FeedBurner are:
1. You can pull all your feeds together in one easy-to-access place.
2. FeedBurner will collect viewing stats on each of your feeds.
3. FeedBurner creates a browser friendly version of your xml file, that can be viewed directly in a browser (unlike most native format feeds).
4. Atom feeds (like the ones created by blogspot.com) can be converted to RSS. Sometimes this is important. The free version of the software I use to integrate feeds into my websites (CaRP) requires RSS.
5. FeedBurner generates nifty -- although probably not all that useful --
promotional tools like these animated buttons like the one at the top of this
article.
